Do not say that Malfoy, you are much too brilliant for that.

Lavender flinched at his words and stopped walking, looking down at the ring on her hand before she looked back at him, not understanding what he was saying. Why would he need his mother’s permission to do anything? He wasn’t a child and neither was she anymore. They had been through hell and back and now he was telling her his mother wasn’t going to let them get married….it was one of the worst excuses that she ever heard and it hurt more than anything. More than the time that she had found out about him and the French bimbo.“So what you are telling me is that you have to have your mum’s permission to marry?”she said after a few moments, willing herself not to get upset. “Why do you need her permission Seamus, you are an adult…..do you…do you not want to get married?” None of this was what she had wanted to hear, and she wanted to just disappear. “I thought….I thought you wanted to.”
“I don’t need her permission Lav,” Seamus started, the walking wasn’t helping as much as he’d like. “I can’t just not have me mam there. She’s mental but she’s still me mam, Lav.”
He felt like yelling, obviously that was a problem of his and he was trying. Seamus went silent instead, attempting to find a way to explain what was going on in his head and with his mother. Somehow to explain why he needed her to be alright with it. Words were not his strong point.
“Family is important to me, Lav. I may mess up all the time, I may yell, I may make stupid decisions with firewhiskey and I may just be absolutely terrible but Lav, it’s family. Out of everything that happens, ever, it’s your family.” Merlin, he was rambling. Why did he always start rambling. “Marriage means adding to that family, not cutting a part off. Even if that part is mental like me mam.”
Lavender looked away from him and started walking again, waiting for him to catch up and feeling a deep sadness start to settle in the pit of her stomach. For once she just wanted something to go right for them, she didn’t think it was too much to ask for. Was there something wrong with her? Did his mother not like her? She thought that things had gone well when she had visited them all those months ago, but perhaps it didn’t.
“I do not know what you want Seamus, and I never meant to cut off your family, I just….” she trailed off with what she was saying, her throat tightening as she tried to hold back the inevitable tears. She didn’t even know what she was saying, and once again she twisted the ring on her finger, feeling like the weight was dragging her down. “I just wanted to be happy is all, after so long. But…if you do not want to…I mean…I guess its up to you about what you want then,”she said softly, a few tears finally falling down her face. She wiped them away and kept her eyes on the hall that the entered, the sight painfully familiar to her.
“Seems my feet always bring me back here whether I want them to or not,”she said as she looked around the hall, walking over and trailing her fingers along the wall where she was held. She turned back around to face him, the expression on her face sad. “I love you more than anything Seamus….I need you to tell me want. I don’t know what to do.”
Lavender shifted her feet awkwardly as she stood there with him, still not looking at him. She did not really know what to say, and it shouldn’t have been like that with the two of them. Just asking her to meet him after class for a chat had her stomach churning with nerves, and she brought a hand up to run her fingers along her face unconsciously before lowering it awkwardly at her side.
“Yeah sure….if thats what you want,”she said softly, moving to fall into step beside him, shifting her bag on her shoulder as they walked slowly through the halls. “I am surprised that you wished to talk to me,”she said after a few moments, keeping her eyes forward as they passed students in the halls. “You have been rather busy as of late.” She had been busy as well with her internship, but she did not make up excuses to not talk about him. She didn’t say any of that though, instead keeping her voice soft and calm as they walked. “I thought you might had forgotten about me.”
“I could never forget about you…” Seamus muttered. “I think abou…” He let his words trail off as they started walking. His eyes trailed a crack in the stone as Lavender spoke, with each word he was feeling worse and worse.
“Lav, I talked with me mam,” Seamus started. “I’m really sorry about getting mad about that Lav…” There was a whole lot that he could apologize about. He felt terrible about the lot of it. There was one thing he felt extremely terrible about.
Merlin, he wished he could fall into the crack.“Lav, me mam is not going to let me marry you.”

It had been a long few weeks since the fight at the hospital. Lavender had barely spoken to Seamus in that time, even though she had tried. He was always busy with something, and Lavender figured that most of his excuses were made up because he did not wish to face her….and…

He’d waited long enough. At least that’s what his guilt was telling him. Seamus sat against the window frame, arms crossed and looking up to the ceiling. He did not want to have this conversation He had avoided the conversation for just as long as humanly possible.
Apparently as long as humanly…
It had been a long few weeks since the fight at the hospital. Lavender had barely spoken to Seamus in that time, even though she had tried. He was always busy with something, and Lavender figured that most of his excuses were made up because he did not wish to face her….and that hurt more than the silences. It was so funny that he had asked her to marry him in one of the most beautiful places, and yet the ring on her finger felt heavier than anything she had ever carried. She thought that things were supposed to be easy now, they were supposed to be happy…but she supposed things were always going to be hard, that’s just the way it seemed to be.
Seamus had finally asked her to meet him after class and she was nervous, not sure what to expect from him. She loved him more than anything and couldn’t imagine her life without him….but a part of her wondered if he was having second thoughts, if she wasn’t what he really wanted, and that frightened her. She rounded the corner of the hallway and saw him sitting on the windowsill and she halted a few feet away from him, her stomach churning nervously as she twisted the ring on her finger. “Hello,”she said after a few moments, looking down at the floor.
